We offer a one-day in-class certification course that focuses on both theoretical and practical applications for hot stone therapy.

Registered Massage Therapists will be eligible to receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in the following provinces:
• 15 CEUs "CATEGORY A" from the College of Massage Therapists
of Ontario.
• 7 CEUs "CATEGORY PE/A2" from the College of Massage Therapists
of British Columbia.
 
The first component of the course will focus on the history and theory of hot stone therapy based on material from within our 100-page instructional manual and DVD (included with your tuition price).  The remainder of the day will be dedicated to learning a full body massage routine.  All students will first observe a full body hot stone massage, demonstration by the course instructor, before moving on to both give and receive a complete treatment themselves.

Topics covered during the course and in the manual include the following:
• History of hot stone therapy
• Naturally formed stones versus mechanically tumbled stones
• Properties of basalt stones and other types of stones
• Effects of heat and cold on the body
• Benefits of hot and cold stone therapy and contraindications
• Purchasing your basalt stone set and how to heat the stones
• How to cleanse and re-energize your stones
• Hot stone massage techniques
• Massage oils and lotions
• How to perform a hot stone massage (full body routine)
• How to incorporate aromatherapy into hot stone therapy
• Integrating chakra work into hot stone therapy
• Setting up your therapy room and getting started as a hot stone therapist

This 30-hour certification course begins with a one day hands-on in-class course followed by completion of 5 case studies and a written exam at home. Certification requires completion of all case studies and a written exam. Completed work must be submitted to The Stone Massage Company for final grading purposes within 12 months of the actual in-class course date.
